Social & Community Group Programs

Some of the most important things in life — friendship, laughter, a shared meal, a sense of belonging — are things that structured disability support often misses. Our group programs exist to fill that gap. We run six active group programs across South Australia, designed for people with disability who want to connect with others, develop new skills, improve their well-being, and genuinely enjoy their time. Groups are small, welcoming, and run by people who care.

Find Your Group

Each of our programs is designed to build connection, skills, and confidence in a safe and welcoming environment.

Walking Groups

Move, Connect, Belong

Our walking groups combine the physical benefits of regular movement with the very real joy of good company. Walks are paced to suit participants — no one is left behind and no one is rushed. We walk in local parks, along trails, and through community spaces, stopping to take in the scenery and enjoy each other's company along the way.

What to expect:

  • Regular gentle-to-moderate walks in safe, accessible locations
  • A welcoming, non-competitive atmosphere with a consistent group
  • Mindfulness elements woven into the walk — breathing, observation, appreciation

Who is this for? People with disability who want to incorporate gentle physical activity into their week, build social connections, and enjoy being outdoors.

Cooking & Nutrition Classes

Skills for Life

Learning to cook — or cook better — is one of the most practical skills we can develop for independence and health. Our cooking and nutrition classes are hands-on, relaxed, and genuinely fun. Participants choose recipes together, shop for ingredients, prepare meals, and sit down to eat what they have made. No experience necessary — just a willingness to give it a go.

What to expect:

  • Hands-on cooking sessions with simple, nutritious recipes
  • Guided grocery shopping to build real-life budgeting skills
  • Relaxed, social atmosphere where mistakes are part of the learning

Who is this for? People with disability who want to build kitchen confidence, learn to prepare healthy meals, or develop practical independence skills.

Craft Classes & Workshops

Make Something You're Proud Of

Our craft and artisanal workshops offer a creative outlet for people who want to make things with their hands. Sessions vary — we run painting, drawing, card-making, basic woodcraft, jewellery, and seasonal crafts — but every session shares the same spirit: relaxed creativity, no pressure, and the satisfaction of finishing something you made yourself.

What to expect:

  • Rotating craft and art activities — no two sessions are identical
  • Encouragement to explore personal style and creativity without judgement
  • Completed projects to take home at the end of every session

Who is this for? People with disability who enjoy creative activities or want to try something new, and anyone looking for a calm and expressive group activity.

Health & Well-being

Feel Better, Live Better

Our health and well-being group takes a holistic, non-clinical approach to physical and mental health. Sessions cover a rotating mix of topics — personal hygiene and self-care routines, mindfulness and stress management, understanding nutrition, gentle weight management conversations, and mental well-being. We approach these topics with warmth and without judgement.

What to expect:

  • Structured but friendly sessions covering health, hygiene, and well-being topics
  • Practical tools and habits participants can take home and use
  • A safe, non-judgemental space to ask questions and have honest conversations

Who is this for? People with disability who want support developing healthy routines, managing their well-being, or spending time in a positive group environment.

Social Engagement Activities

Build Your Social World

Meaningful relationships do not happen by accident — they need the right environment to grow. Our social engagement activities are designed to create that environment: structured, regular activities that bring the same group of people together consistently, giving friendships the space and time to develop naturally.

What to expect:

  • A consistent group that builds trust and familiarity over time
  • A variety of social activities planned with participant input
  • Support to build social confidence in a low-pressure setting

Who is this for? People with disability who want to build social confidence, expand their social network, or who feel isolated and are looking for a welcoming group.

Community Hubs

Your Place to Belong

Our Community Hubs are regular gatherings where participants come together not for a structured program but simply to connect — to share stories, celebrate achievements, mark milestones, and spend time with people who understand their journey. These gatherings are the heartbeat of what we do at Absolute Disability Services.

What to expect:

  • Regular group gatherings in an informal, welcoming setting
  • A participant-led atmosphere where everyone's voice is welcomed
  • Food, connection, and the chance to celebrate the journeys people are on

Who is this for? All participants across any of our services who want a consistent, familiar community space — and anyone who simply wants a place where they belong.

How to Get Involved

Our group programs are open to NDIS participants (typically funded under Group and Centre-Based Activities in your plan) and private clients who prefer to pay directly. No two participants have identical situations, so we recommend giving us a call to find out what is currently running, where groups are meeting, and which program might suit you best. There is no waiting list for a conversation — reach out today and we will help you find your fit.
